Looking Ahead: The Future of Safety at PSS
With half of 2025 now behind us, so is half of Pearson Safety’s 20th year! Any anniversary is a time to reflect and celebrate the accomplishments already achieved. The first 20 years have been exciting and have filled us with knowledge and experience. However, an anniversary is also a time to look to the future and plan with confidence the next chapter in the journey. The future is bright at PSS, and we believe we are well-positioned to harness technology to drive efficiencies and measurable safety results in the coming years.
The compliance mindset among industries has been changing over the past few years. Before, the philosophy was to focus on compliance with OSHA and other government agencies, but more recently, there has been a shift to driving measurable results that lower injuries on a workplace-specific basis. This is an excellent shift as businesses focus more on the unique hazards in their facilities, going above and beyond basic compliance. A reduction in injuries is sure to follow.
Many factors are driving this, but a major contributor is the tightening insurance market. Whatever the causes, employers are looking for cost-effective ways to demonstrate improved safety metrics across their facilities and job sites. For this reason, PSS continues to improve and expand its retainer and online training services, both individually but also as a paired service. Nothing replaces the “boots on the ground” benefits of the retainer, which includes a qualified safety professional regularly inspecting worksites, but the benefit of that is greatly increased with the use of LinkTrain.
Businesses can ensure that new hires are trained on site-specific hazards before setting foot in an active facility or on a jobsite. This also allows the safety team to focus on other tasks, such as continuing training, accountability initiatives, and safety strategy, instead of constantly training new hires.
Another area where we expect to see substantial growth is contractor qualification. Contractors continue to make up a significant population of active facilities and commercial construction projects. Therefore, businesses are looking to ensure their contractors maintain strict safety and insurance standards. Our online service LinkQualify is positioned to help fill that gap in many workplaces. It gives hiring clients the ability to send customized requirements to their contractors based on the work they will be performing. LinkQualify focuses on simplifying reporting tasks for contractors and providing clear status checks to the hiring client so they know, in real time, who is qualified to work in the facility.
These requirements can range from certificates of insurance, site-specific safety plans, company handbooks, EMR reporting, safety metrics such as TRIR, and any other documentation a hiring client wants from a contractor. Additionally, LinkQualify integrates the training features from LinkTrain to deliver custom site-specific training to each contractor’s employees. Hiring clients can rest easy knowing that their contractors have not only been prequalified, but all employees have been trained appropriately.
Finally, we cannot look to the future of PSS without looking to those who helped us achieve our first 20 years.
